Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall

Once a year, the path appears in the forest and Lucy Gallows beckons. Who is brave enough to find her--and who won't make it out of the woods?

It's been exactly one year since Sara's sister, Becca, disappeared, and high school life has far from settled back to normal. With her sister gone, Sara doesn't know whether her former friends no longer like her...or are scared of her, and the days of eating alone at lunch have started to blend together. When a mysterious text message invites Sara and her estranged friends to "play the game" and find local ghost legend Lucy Gallows, Sara is sure this is the only way to find Becca--before she's lost forever. And even though she's hardly spoken with them for a year, Sara finds herself deep in the darkness of the forest, her friends--and their cameras--following her down the path. Together, they will have to draw on all of their strengths to survive. The road is rarely forgiving, and no one will be the same on the other side.

This book...how to describe it. Rules for Vanishing was probably one of the most confusing books I've read. But despite it practically giving me a headache trying to decipher, it still gave me chills while reading it so I thought it deserved 4 stars. The story unlocks introducing Sara who had lost her sister Becca to a game last year. A mysterious text message starts up the game again, and along with a couple of friends, Sara finds out, that the myth isn't a myth at all.
The content. Right. The content and plot of the story were actually interesting and though it was also like solving a puzzle. The story definitely tests loyalty and friendship which was a good twist to the book. Honestly, the story already showed loyalty and enduring love of siblings within the first chapter and it was really nice to see that one sibling who would do anything for her sister to come back.
On the other hand, the story shows a series of tests that Sara and her friends have pass in order to move on to the next test thingy. It's so expected that they meet a near-death experience within every gateway/door test and practically lose someone until it's back to the original squad. This book did show the true strength of friendships and the love of siblings who would do anything for each other. Even though this book was practically a puzzle to solve, I did enjoy it and would recommend this to people who enjoy curling up with a good book over the weekend.
But one question remains, What happened in the dark?
